In Art Kitchen we all use bicycle. There are those who use it because they don’t have the driving license. Those who do because their scooter has been stolen. And those who do because they think human being, in a nearby future, will charge himself with crime against humanity for our everyday habits. By the way, no matter the weather, we use bicycle everyday of the year. Hot days, cold days, sun, rain. But we think June is the best month to leave the winter laziness behind and choose bicycle as our official means of transport.

But bicycle is just the beginning. We do recycling, we try to eat as less meat as we can and we adopt those habits that, we guess (with a utopian hope), might shrink our environmental impact. Would we change the future of the world? Probably not. And we are aware of that. Honestly we don’t do it for the world. We do it for ourselves. We do it so that we can feel less guilty. We do it because we are not able to act as if nothing is happening.

Let’s use, for the sake of arguments, a metaphor very much in vogue in these days (football). Those who change their lifestyle toward a more eco-friendly direction are quite like the fan who supports his team (let’s say Italy) in front of a TV screen at home, with his face all painted blue, wearing the Balotelli’s shirt and holding the Italian flag in his hand, hoping, again very utopian (if not superstitious), that this will positively influence the outcome of the game. Is he doing it for himself or is he doing for his team? Probably just for himself. But it’s a beginning.

We can think that, maybe, one day, the fan with his painted blue face will leave his comfortable couch and move on the uncomfortable seats of a stadium and then, again maybe, take the field and play the game in first person. And we might also think that at the ninetieth minute, when the outcome of the game seems to be done, it is just that fan to make the last-minute goal and allow his team to win the game. Which would not be bad for one who began to support his team sitting in front of a television.
